USTA SOUTHWEST 65 & OVER LEAGUE INVITATIONAL

Our USTA Southwest 65 & Over League Invitational will be making its way toward Scottsdale, Arizona this December 6-8, for our final USTA League event of 2024.
Teams from across the entire Southwest will battle it out on the courts in Scottsdale over the course of three days, all for the right to call themselves Southwest Section league champions. With a team victory at this event, division winners will also receive a coveted spot into the USTA National 65 & Over League Invitational, held in Spring 2025.
This is our oldest age division of play for USTA Leagues, but our favorite to watch compete! We'll have multiple teams in 6.0, 7.0, 8.0 and 9.0 skill levels participating.

This 18-court public tennis center in the heart of Scottsdale has been a consistent host to local, section and national league championship events, because of its prime location and quality courts.
REGISTRATION DEADLINE
The deadline to register for sectionals is November 26th, 2024. No players will be able to register after that date.
HOTEL INFORMATION
A small courtesy hotel room block for this year’s 65 & Over USTA Southwest League Invitational is at the Hampton Inn & Suites Phoenix/Scottsdale at Shea Blvd (10101 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85253). The hotel is also located near the Scottsdale Ranch Park playing site. The booking link for the Hampton Inn is HERE.

VIRTUAL CAPTAIN’S MEETING
USTA Southwest will hold a virtual (online) captain’s meeting for this event on Monday, Dec. 2 at 5:30 PM AZ TIME to go over event protocols and procedures. Section League Coordinator (SLC) will send out the event link to qualified captain’s a week prior to the virtual meeting.

Team Line-Up Sheets: Completed cards must be turned into the Tournament Desk by the team captain at the playing location 30 minutes prior to when the match is scheduled to start. All team members on the line-up card must be present at the facility before courts and balls will be assigned.
A match could start as early as 30 minutes prior to the scheduled time, so it is very important that your team is present and ready to play when the captain turns in the team line-up card. All players must be prepared to present photo identification to the tournament desk staff prior to going on court.
Tournament Rules- Please review the enclosed tournament rules. Please keep in mind:
· When you are assigned a court please make sure you are playing the right team and position.
· NO COACHING
· The 5-minute warm-up rule will be strictly enforced
· All Tie Breaks will utilize the Coman Rotation.
· Match format will consist of a Coman 10-point Match Tiebreak in lieu of the third set.
· All courts should report their score immediately after their individual matches before watching their team, a winner and an opponent come to the desk to report the score together.
· Upon completion of a match, a winner and an opponent go, immediately, together to report the score.
Awards– Champions and Finalists awards will be given out as play ends on Sunday or after completion of each division’s matches. The USTA Southwest Section, will provide up to 12 awards for each Champion and Finalist team. Additional awards may be purchased at the team’s expense.
PLAYER ELIGIBILITY
All Players Must Advance From A Local League Team
All players, of any rating type (C or S) are required to play two matches in their local league season to be eligible to compete at the section Invitational, 1 default awarded may be counted as a match played.
No team or individual player waivers are accepted for this event.
WILDCARD TEAMS
All teams invited to attend as WILDCARD TEAMS are required to field a full roster, 6 healthy players for each match in their flight, with the correct rating combinations (at least .5 away from the flight level). YEAR-END RATINGS
Year-End Ratings Will Be Published on December 3, 2024.
After Year End Ratings Publication, if players are moved up in a level, they may compete at the 65 & Over Invitational in their prior lower rating level as long as they have not been DQ'd by the computer or reached the "Clearly Above Level" in their prior rating level. Those players would have to play at their new rating level.
All Teams must have enough players in the correct combination of ratings to fill all courts for all matches scheduled in the flight. If teams can not fill all courts for all matches they are not eligible to attend.
MATCH SCHEDULE
A final match schedule will be posted on TennisLink a week prior to the invitational event. Keep in mind, it is tentative and always subject to change based on withdrawals, weather, etc.
All teams should initially plan on playing all weekend, with match times beginning Friday morning and finishing by 2 pm on Sunday. Keep in mind you can be scheduled for any time!
Any teams going home early or abandoning the event without tournament director permission will be subject to a sportsmanship grievance, which could result in penalties and suspensions to the entire team from the USTA League Program.
