Improve You Game: Self-Rally Forehand

July 02, 2018

We’re going to show you a simple activity to get you playing tennis fast. A key to instant tennis is the self rally. This will get you hitting the forehand and learning how to control the height of the ball.

Hold your racquet in your dominant hand with your palm facing up. Start by tapping the ball up to eye height and then catching the ball after one bounce. Progress to repeating the drill without catching the ball each time.

With self rally practice, you are on your way to hitting the forehand with control and height.

Leah Friedman is a tennis professional at the USTA National Campus at Lake Nona in Orlando, Fla.
