How the USTA Works For You
The USTA is the national governing body for the sport of tennis and the leader in promoting and developing the sport’s growth on every level in the United States, from local communities to the crown jewel of the professional game: the US Open.
The USTA is a progressive and diverse not-for-profit organization whose volunteers, professional staff and financial resources support a single mission: to promote and develop the growth of tennis. The USTA is organized into 17 geographical sections, with more than 680,000 individual members and more than 7,000 organization members, thousands of volunteers and a professional staff, all dedicated to growing the game.
To further serve the sport at every level of play, the USTA debuted the USTA National Campus, the home of American tennis, in January 2017. The 100-court tennis facility, located in the Lake Nona community of Orlando, Fla., helps the USTA deliver on its mission and provide the vision for the future of tennis in the U.S.
Community Tennis
Community Tennis strives to grow tennis at every level, with a goal of making the game accessible to everyone. It supports a wide range of programs designed to help people learn the game, play the game and take advantage of our sport’s many health, fitness and social benefits.
Adult Tennis and Association Services, Market Development, Collegiate Tennis and Youth Tennis are all managed within this business unit, which covers every step along the play pathway – from starting out with youth tennis to USTA Junior Team Tennis, no-cut high school programs, junior tournaments and junior competition, and on to college tennis (be it collegiate varsity tennis or USTA Tennis On Campus), USTA League and USTA-sanctioned tournaments for players of all ages.
Community Tennis uses USTA National Campus to help develop the next generation of tennis providers. With this in mind, USTA University offers curricula in tennis, management, hospitality and sport science to help prepare the next generation of tennis providers, including tennis professionals, coaches and administrators.
Community Tennis works hand in hand with the USTA’s 17 sections, thousands of committed volunteers and industry partners on numerous grassroots efforts, including strengthening the tennis infrastructure in public parks and schools by building and/or renovating more than 30,000 tennis courts.
Player Development
The mission of USTA Player Development is to develop world-class American players through a clearly defined training structure and competitive pathway as well as through the implementation of a comprehensive coaching philosophy and structure.
The Player Development program, based out of the USTA National Campus in Orlando, also utilizes the USTA Training Center–West in Carson, Calif., and the USTA Training Center–East in Flushing, N.Y., as well as a network of regional training centers located throughout the country. USTA Player Development encompasses several areas of oversight, including coaching education, player identification and development, sport science, strength and conditioning, and player services, as well as involvement in junior and collegiate competition.

Professional Tennis
Professional Tennis manages all aspects of the USTA’s involvement in the professional sport, including opening and operating the world’s highest-attended annual sporting event: the US Open.
In addition, the USTA owns approximately 90 USTA Pro Circuit events nationwide and manages and selects the U.S. teams for Davis Cup, Fed Cup, the Olympics and the Paralympic Games. The USTA also oversees all operations of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, the home of the US Open.
Designed to operate as a true sports marketing, entertainment and media group, Professional Tennis generates – through television, sponsorship, ticket sales, merchandising and digital media – significant revenue for funding the USTA mission and works to increase the popularity of the pro game to positively affect player participation.
Diversity and Inclusion
Leveraging diversity and creating an inclusive environment is essential to achieving the USTA mission to promote and develop the growth of tennis. The USTA is committed to removing barriers and creating opportunities for all to participate in all that we do. Furthermore, the USTA strives to serve as a model for all organizations that aspire to achieve maximum growth potential by reaching out to all of America.

USTA Foundation
The USTA Foundation, the national charitable arm of the USTA, brings together the powerful combination of tennis and education to change the lives of under-resourced youth.
The Foundation utilizes financial grants, scholarship opportunities, curricula, technical assistance and training to make a lasting difference, with a primary focus of developing and ensuring the sustainability and effectiveness of the National Junior Tennis & Learning (NJTL) network. The NJTL network features more than 350 chapters that reach more than 200,000 youth on an annual basis, providing free or low-cost tennis and education programming to the largest 50 markets in the U.S. – nurturing future leaders and enabling kids in need to succeed on the court, in the classroom and in life.
The Foundation raises money and public awareness to support these life-changing programs through private donations, corporate sponsorships and foundations, as well as its special fundraisers held throughout the year, including the Opening Night Gala at the US Open, the Avenue of Aces brick and paver program, a Pro-Am and Fantasy Camps, to name a few. Through year-end 2018, the Foundation has awarded more than $28 million in grants and scholarships to more than 270 programs, helping to serve up dreams for thousands of children and adults throughout the country.
